Conn 14J Director Bell Up Eb Bass
Date: 1955. Owner unknown
The 14J has three valves. Notice that the text below doesn't include the phrase "Lustre-Conn finish". Which might account for the state of the lacquer. The 14J doesn't appear in Conn's 1966 catalog, so it must have been discontinued in either 1965 or 1966.
What Conn said in 1959:
The leader in the "lightweight" bass design. Weighs only 18 lbs. Bore is not reduced but precision
engineering developed this bass to meet the need of a bass light enough for the grade school player and still
adequate for the "brass bass sound" in concert band and orchestra. Only Conn can offer such a bass with
these features: full Eb bass tone, Crysteel smooth action valves, hydraulic expansion protexts inside
bore tapers, even scale (only 31" long, bell size 16").
Also available: Satin silver finish with silver bell.
