Conn 4H Artist Special
Date: 1940. Owned by William Janning
Here is one seriously rare trombone. This is a 4H Artist Special. In excellent condition, with original lacquer by the looks of it (you can usually tell by the color). The 4H Special was, according to the model number list, built between 1939 and 1941. However, I have been contacted by someone who owns a 1936 model. Which is plausible considering the fact that "Special" models of various instruments were available starting in 1936. The owner of this 4H, Andy, took several pictures of it, including the serial number. It definitely dates to 1940. Above the serial number is stamped "Artist Special". The nickel trim and the extensive engraving indicate it is a special. The case (pictured above) is correct for a "Special" version of an instrument around 1940. According to the model number list, the only Artist Special in production in 1940 was the 4H Special.
